Lab Manual Activity

Activity Goal:  Perform a laboratory experiment, then produce a write up that is of a high enough quality to publish!

First Step:  Perform the assigned lab, following the procedure and instruction sheet.  Take good notes and record your data accurately.

Second Step:  Take photos of the experiment in progress, make drawings of the set-up, and save these images onto a computer disk.

Third Step:  Type the lab formally, include a purpose, procedure, materials and equipment list, data, and conclusions.

Fourth Step:  Cut and paste your pictures and drawings into your lab report.

Fifth Step:  Check the scoring guide and make sure you have all of the required items included.

Last Step:  Save it to disk and print it!  One copy can be shared by you and your lab partner.

Definitions

Purpose:  This is a short statement of what you are trying to do in the lab experiment and why you are trying to do it.

Procedure:  This is a step by step list of instructions that are so detailed that a blindfolded, hormonal, dizzy 7th grader could follow them and get exactly the same results as you did.

Materials and Equipment:  Just a list of everything you used in the lab, from thermometers to chemicals.

Data and Calculations:  This is a list of all of your measurements.  They should be very accurate, very labeled, and on a table.

Conclusion:  This is where you explain your results in paragraph form.  Summarize what you did, what you gathered, any conclusions, any percent errors, and any problems you encountered.  This is also a good place for graphs and calculations.
